LEGOLAND Windsor Hotel Review: Is It Worth Staying On-Site?

If you’re thinking of staying at LEGOLAND Windsor with the kids, this review covers exactly what it’s like, whether an on-site hotel stay is worth it and which of the LEGOLAND Windsor accommodation options are best for families. We recently stayed in one of the Woodland Village Lodges so I’ve added: what was included, a review of what we thought, LEGOLAND Windsor hotel alternatives, a description of the facilities and lots of photos. LEGOLAND Windsor is, without a doubt, one of the best UK theme parks for families, particularly if you have children under 11. With over 55 rides and attractions, plus plenty of LEGO-themed fun throughout the park, it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular family short break destination – make sure you check out my LEGOLAND Windsor Theme Park Guide to plan out your day.

Where is LEGOLAND Windsor located?

Before I dive into our Woodland Village review, and the hotel options on-site, I thought it would be helpful to cover where LEGOLAND Windsor is located and how to get there. LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is located in Windsor, Berkshire, around 30 miles west of central London. If you’re driving, it’s easily accessible from the M4, M25 and M3 motorways and it’s well signposted once you’re nearby. There’s a large on-site car park – standard parking costs £12 and priority parking is £18 (2026). However, if you’re staying on-site, free parking is included with short breaks. The full address is: LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Winkfield Road, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 4AY.

For those travelling by train, Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor & Eton Riverside railway stations are the nearest train stations. From there, shuttle buses and local buses operate to the resort throughout the main season.

What’s a short break at LEGOLAND Windsor like?

Staying on-site at LEGOLAND Windsor feels very different from simply visiting for the day. From the moment you arrive, everything is designed around the LEGO experience. Whether you stay in the LEGOLAND Hotel, the Castle Hotel or the Woodland Village Lodges, you’re completely immersed in the theme park atmosphere. One of the biggest benefits of staying on-site is convenience. Instead of dealing with traffic and parking first thing in the morning, you’re already at the resort and can make the most of Early Ride Access on selected attractions. For families, particularly those travelling with younger children, that extra convenience makes a huge difference. It also means you can spread the fun across two days rather than trying to cram everything into a single visit. It took us about 2 minutes to walk from the restaurant after breakfast to the park entrance!

What’s included when you stay at LEGOLAND Windsor?

For short break packages, check out the LEGOLAND Windsor website for the best deals. What is included can vary slightly depending on the package you book, but this is what you can typically expect when staying at one of the official LEGOLAND accommodation options:

✔ Breakfast included
✔ Free parking
✔ Early Ride Access to selected attractions
✔ Access to on-site entertainment and play areas
✔ Fully themed accommodation
✔ Easy walking access to the theme park
✔ Exclusive LEGO features and activities for children

For many families, the biggest perk is Early Ride Access. Being able to enjoy some of the most popular rides before the general public arrives can save a surprising amount of queueing time. An extra perk for families staying in one of the LEGOLAND Windsor Hotels (excluding the Woodland Village Lodges) is access to the LEGO pirate-themed indoor water play area and swimming pool.

LEGOLAND Windsor accommodation options

There are currently three main accommodation options available at the resort and each offers a slightly different experience.

LEGOLAND Hotel

The LEGOLAND Hotel is the original on-site hotel and it remains a popular choice for families. Every room is fully themed, with options including LEGO NINJAGO, Pirates, Adventure and Kingdom themes. Children have their own separate sleeping area and there are LEGO building challenges and surprises built into the rooms. This is probably the best all-round choice if your children absolutely love LEGO and want the most immersive experience possible.

LEGOLAND Castle Hotel

Located next door to the LEGOLAND Hotel, the Castle Hotel takes the theming even further. Rooms are themed around Knights, Wizards and Princesses, making it particularly popular with younger children. The entire hotel feels like stepping into a LEGO castle and there are plenty of interactive features throughout. If your children love dragons, castles and fairy tales, this is probably the accommodation they’ll enjoy the most.

Woodland Village Lodges

The Woodland Village is the newest accommodation option at the resort and where we chose to stay. Rather than a traditional hotel, the Woodland Village consists of family lodges set within a beautifully landscaped outdoor setting. While there is still plenty of LEGO theming, the overall feel is calmer and more spacious than the hotels. The outdoor play areas are fantastic and it feels more like a family holiday village than a hotel stay. It’s perfect for families wanting a quieter experience and extra outdoor space. We loved it – loads more photos below…

If you’re working with a smaller budget, the Woodland Village also has camping barrels. These are individual camping pods suitable for families – a basic option if you’re happy just to use it as somewhere convenient to sleep. This area has a toilet/shower block nearby rather than individual facilities.

Our stay in a Woodland Village Lodge (honest review)

We stayed in one of the Woodland Village Lodges and honestly couldn’t have been happier with our choice. We brought our friends with their children (as our kids are teens!) and we were next-door-neighbours which was fab. The first thing we noticed was how different it felt compared to a traditional theme park hotel. Instead of large hotel buildings and busy corridors, the lodges are spread throughout the village with plenty of outdoor space between them. The whole area feels modern, relaxed and family-focused.

Check-in was quick and easy and parking was included with our stay. There’s a Lego station in the reception area so we had to coax the kids out of it! After dropping our bags off, we spent some time exploring the village itself. There are several outdoor play areas for children and lots of LEGO-themed features scattered throughout the site. The lodge itself was clean, modern and surprisingly spacious. It felt much more like a holiday lodge than a hotel room, which we really liked. You could check in from 4pm and the check out time the following morning was 10am.

Our lodges each had a main bedroom with a TV, a dressing-table area and tea and coffee making facilities. There was a small fridge too which is always really handy – you can bring a picnic or some supermarket meal deals to keep costs down inside the park. The kids’ bedroom was separated by a curtain – with the area sleeping up to 3 children (bunk beds and a pull out underneath). It also had its own TV, a table for playing Lego and a cool game to play where the kids had to get a code for the padlocked cupboard. There were prizes inside – all Lego themed of course. Even the shower room matched the theming, and it came with toiletries and towels too so you can pack lightly for your getaway. Here are some photos of the lodges that we had for our stay at Legoland Windsor:

One of the biggest advantages of the Woodland Village is that you still receive all of the benefits of staying on-site, including Early Ride Access, while enjoying a quieter environment away from the main hotels. The Woodland Village also has its own restaurant and social area, making it easy to grab breakfast or dinner without leaving the resort. In the evening, there was entertainment for the kids – all of the staff seemed really enthusiastic and friendly. Honestly, the girls thought the whole place was absolutely magical and they loved it. We chose to eat off-site in the evening to save some money (we had a Nandos voucher!) – there are loads of restaurants to choose from in Windsor Town Centre. It’s a gorgeous place for a wander, with the castle and the river, and it’s only a 10 minute drive from LEGOLAND so it’s really convenient too.

There was a good range of food for breakfast at the Clubhouse Restaurant in the LEGOLAND Woodland Village. Breakfast ran from 7-10.15am. You could order a hot English breakfast or things like pancakes which would be brought to your table. Or, help yourself to things like yoghurts, fruit and toast at the buffet areas. For drinks you could choose from hot drinks, water and fruit juice. It’s a really big restaurant and you need to pre-book a time slot before you visit. The atmosphere throughout the village was relaxed and friendly and it felt particularly well suited to families with younger children.

The only negative that we had from our whole stay was the noise from the planes (I think it’s probably unavoidable in the Windsor area) as the area is on a flight path for Heathrow Airport and they fly frequently from about 6am. (Though you’ll likely be up bright and early anyway!)

Staying on-site vs nearby hotels

If you’re on a tighter budget, there are plenty of hotels near LEGOLAND Windsor that may be cheaper than staying on-site. The main trade-off is convenience and that extra LEGOLAND magic that comes with the theming. You’ll also need to drive to the park, pay for parking and allow extra time in the morning, especially during busy periods. That said, if you’re visiting on a budget, staying nearby can be a more affordable option and it still works really well for families. You’ll still get the same day in the park and staying nearby can be a good way to keep costs down, especially if you’re only visiting LEGOLAND for one day.

Is it worth staying at LEGOLAND Windsor?

For most families, this comes down to budget vs convenience. It’s worth staying at LEGOLAND Windsor if you want to make the trip as easy as possible, especially if you’re visiting with younger children. Not having to travel in first thing in the morning, deal with parking stress or rush everyone out of the door makes a big difference. The themed accommodation also adds to the excitement for kids. It turns the trip into more of a short break rather than just a day out. The girls absolutely loved it! We’ve stayed at Warwick Castle, Alton Towers and Chessington World of Adventures previously too and the theming is always fantastic.

For us, staying in the LEGOLAND Woodland Village made the trip easier, smoother and more enjoyable. The lodges were modern, clean and family-friendly – if it fits your budget, I’d definitely recommend considering the Woodland Village for at least one LEGOLAND Windsor stay. But if you’re trying to save money, staying nearby is still a perfectly good option and won’t take away from your day in the park.

I hope that my review of our LEGOLAND Windsor Woodland Village getaway has been helpful – we really enjoyed our trip and, whether you stay in a hotel or a lodge, LEGOLAND Windsor is absolutely brilliant for a short break with younger kids.
