Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor

Welcome to my guide on visiting LEGOLAND Windsor, including a review of our family day out, practical information, where to stay and money-saving tips. LEGOLAND Windsor is one of the best theme parks in the UK for younger children. With over 55 rides and attractions, incredible LEGO models and interactive experiences, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the UK’s most popular family attractions. Unlike some of the bigger thrill-seeking theme parks, LEGOLAND is designed with families firmly in mind.

The resort has some fabulous themed hotel rooms and holiday lodges – if you fancy a short break, make sure you read about our stay too. This family guide covers everything you need to know – with ride information, queue times, where to eat, opening hours, LEGOLAND Windsor accommodation options, how to save money on tickets and more!

Where is LEGOLAND Windsor located?

The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is located in Windsor, Berkshire, around 30 miles west of central London. If you’re driving, it’s easily accessible from the M4, M25 and M3 motorways and it’s well signposted once you’re nearby. There’s a large on-site car park – standard parking costs £12 and priority parking is £18 (2026). However, if you’re staying on-site, free parking is included with short breaks. The full address is: LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Winkfield Road, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 4AY. For those travelling by train, Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor & Eton Riverside railway stations are the nearest train stations. From there, shuttle buses and local buses operate to the resort throughout the main season.

What is LEGOLAND Windsor like?

What age range is it suitable for?

LEGOLAND Windsor is one of the most family-focused theme parks in the UK and it’s fabulous for children aged between 3 and 11 years old. Unlike places like Thorpe Park, which focuses heavily on thrill rides, or Alton Towers (which has a mix of family attractions and major rollercoasters) LEGOLAND is designed entirely around children. If your children love LEGO, they’ll be in their element. Everywhere you look there are huge LEGO creations, themed lands, interactive attractions and opportunities to build and play.

We visited LEGOLAND Windsor with our friends and their little girls (our own children are too old for it now) – and they absolutely loved it! They adored the LEGO models throughout the park and wanted photos with them all! Even as adults we found ourselves stopping constantly to admire the detail. You’ll find rides suitable for toddlers, plenty for primary-school-aged children and enough family coasters and attractions to keep older kids entertained too if they’re coming along for the day. Add in splash parks and millions of LEGO bricks and there’s enough to keep most children busy for an entire weekend. It’s a really big theme park with absolutely loads to see and do!

What rides are there?

Here’s a handy breakdown of some of the best rides at LEGOLAND Windsor by age group.

The best rides at LEGOLAND Windsor for toddlers and younger children

  • DUPLO Dino Coaster: A brilliant first rollercoaster for little ones that’s gentle enough not to be scary but exciting enough to feel like a proper ride.
  • Fairy Tale Brook: A relaxing boat ride featuring scenes from classic fairy tales built entirely from LEGO.
  • Coastguard HQ: Children can steer their own boat around the waterways and even squirt water at other riders.

  • DUPLO Express: A miniature train ride that’s perfect for younger children.
  • Aero Nomad: A gentle flying ride where little adventurers can soar above the ground.
  • DUPLO Valley Splash Safari: Perfect on a warm day, this splash area is always popular with younger visitors so don’t forget a change of clothes!

The best rides at LEGOLAND Windsor for bigger kids

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of rollercoaster

  • Flight of the Sky Lion: LEGOLAND’s newest rollercoaster, this winged coaster provides some genuine thrills while still remaining family friendly.
  • The Dragon: A LEGOLAND classic. The ride starts with a slow journey through a LEGO castle before launching into a fun family rollercoaster.
  • Driving School: One of the most iconic attractions at LEGOLAND. Kids can drive their own miniature cars around roads, traffic lights and roundabouts before earning a LEGO driving licence. (Though these were pricey at £13.99!) The girls LOVED this!

  • Hydra’s Challenge: A fun water ride where families can spin their own boat while trying not to get too wet.
  • Pirate Falls Treasure Quest: LEGOLAND’s log flume attraction. Expect splashes and plenty of laughs.
  • Haunted House Monster Party: A clever illusion-based attraction that’s unlike anything else in the park and always proves popular with older children.

Some of our favourite attractions weren’t actually rollercoasters at all. LEGOLAND has several interactive rides where you’re actively involved rather than just sitting back and watching. On Laser Raiders, you travel through an ancient temple shooting targets with laser guns to score points. While the LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure combines a ride with real aquariums, letting you spot sharks, rays and tropical fish as you journey through an underwater world. This was the kids’ favourite attraction as they both absolutely adore animals.

They thought the LEGO NINJAGO ride was great fun too. You use hand gestures to throw fire, ice and lightning at enemies as your ride vehicle moves through interactive 4D scenes. The kids loved trying to beat each other’s scores and it quickly became one of our favourite rides of the day. There are plenty of attractions like this if you’ve got children who aren’t quite ready for bigger rollercoasters yet. Click here to see a full list of all the rides available and the height restrictions – it’ll take you straight to the relevant section on the LEGOLAND Windsor website.

What else is there to do at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of mini village

The rides are only part of the LEGOLAND experience. One of the highlights of any visit is Miniland, which features famous landmarks from around the world recreated using millions of LEGO bricks. From London landmarks to international cities, the attention to detail is absolutely incredible. Keep an eye out for moving vehicles, trains and tiny scenes taking place within the cities. There are also character meet-and-greets and plenty of interactive build zones where children can create their own LEGO masterpieces.

You’ll spot play areas dotted around the park which offer brilliant spaces for little ones to let off steam in between queues and rides. The splash zone is a lifesaver on hot days too so bring some swimsuits and towels for the kids. The girls had a lovely time playing in the water – we visited during the May half-term heatwave (with temperatures in the 30s) so they really needed to cool off.

Planning your day

What are the queues like?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of flying ride

Make sure you download the LEGOLAND Windsor app before your visit – you can view live queue times and it’ll guide you around the park – we found it incredibly useful as it helped us to map out a family-friendly route to avoid unnecessary walking. Queue times can vary enormously depending on when you visit. During school holidays, the most popular rides can exceed an hour, while quieter weekdays outside peak of season may see waits of just 10 to 20 minutes. For our May half-term visit the queue times ranged from just a few minutes for smaller rides, to around 25 minutes for attractions like the driving school and 45-70 minutes for the most popular rides.

As with most theme parks, arriving before opening time makes a huge difference. I always recommend heading straight to the rides at the back of the park first before working your way back towards the entrance later in the day. Lunchtime can also be a great time to tackle some of the bigger rides while other visitors stop for food. If you’re booking a short break stay, it’s handy to be able to get into the park a little earlier – selected rides will open early so pick the most popular ones to check them off before the crowds arrive.

Can you do LEGOLAND in a day?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of children in woodland village lodge

Yes, you can absolutely do LEGOLAND in a day, especially if you’re visiting outside of peak season and arrive early. However, there’s so much to see and do that an overnight stay can make the experience far more relaxing. We stayed over the night before so getting into the park was super quick and easy the following morning. However, with it being half-term, it was busy and it’s such a vast park (with so many attractions) I actually think we could have easily filled two days.

Between the rides, Miniland, splash areas and play zones, it’s easy to find yourself running out of time. If you’re visiting during school holidays, or with younger children who may need regular breaks, two days is definitely worth considering. Many of the short break packages include park tickets, making them surprisingly good value when compared with purchasing everything separately. If you’ve only got one day to explore, prioritise the rides the kids want to go on the most and pre-plan your route around the park to save time and energy.

What are the opening and closing times?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of castle

LEGOLAND Windsor operates seasonally, typically from March through to early November, with selected special events taking place throughout the year. Opening and closing times vary depending on the season and peak dates etc – it’s typically open from 10 or 11am until 4-6pm. For our May half-term visit, it was open from 10am-6pm and the girls made the most of every second! One thing to be aware of is that LEGOLAND doesn’t open every day during the off-season, so it’s definitely worth checking the calendar before booking accommodation or taking annual leave.

What happens if it rains at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of children near lego

Let’s be honest, this is the UK, so rain is always a possibility! ☔ The good news is that LEGOLAND remains open in most weather conditions, including rain. Many rides continue operating and there are plenty of indoor attractions and play areas where you can shelter if the weather takes a turn for the worse. Like most theme parks, some rides may close temporarily during extreme weather such as thunderstorms, lightning or high winds for safety reasons. I’d definitely recommend packing waterproofs just in case – we always seem to end up carrying both sun cream and raincoats whenever we visit a UK attraction!

Where are the best places to eat at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of fast food restaurant

There are plenty of food options dotted around LEGOLAND Windsor – from burgers, pizza and pasta to sandwiches, snacks and sweet treats. You’ll find restaurants and kiosks throughout the park, so you’re never too far from somewhere to grab lunch or a quick drink. Look out for deals to keep costs down – I spotted a family meal deal with 2 pizzas, garlic bread and 4 drinks for £40 during our visit. In one of the fast-food restaurants a burger and chips meal was priced at £10. Ice-lollies ranged from around £2.75-£4, while cones were £5.50-£6 depending on the number of toppings.

As with most theme parks, food and drinks can be fairly expensive, especially if you’re feeding a whole family. However, you’re welcome to bring your own food – there are lots of benches and picnic areas throughout the resort where you can stop for lunch. (We always bring our cool bag rucksack on days out!) You can also refill water bottles for free around the park, which is particularly handy during the warmer months. If you’re staying overnight, there are additional dining options available within the hotels and Woodland Village too, giving you plenty of choice for breakfast and evening meals.

Is LEGOLAND Windsor cashless?

Yes, LEGOLAND Windsor is primarily a cashless resort. Card and contactless payments are accepted throughout the park, hotels, restaurants and shops.

Accommodation Options

Is it worth staying overnight at LEGOLAND Windsor?

Ultimate Family Guide for LEGOLAND Windsor, frugal mum review, photo of castle hotel

Absolutely. While LEGOLAND can be done in a day, staying overnight makes the whole experience far more relaxing, especially if you’re travelling a reasonable distance or visiting with younger children. For short break packages, with a hotel stay included, check out the LEGOLAND website for the best deals. Being able to arrive the day before, enjoy the evening entertainment and then head into the park first thing the next morning removes a lot of the stress. There are three on-site accommodation options:

All of the accommodation options at LEGOLAND Windsor are magically themed – the kids loved it! We stayed in the Woodland Village Lodges and it was brilliant. The lodges are designed with families in mind and offer a really comfortable base for your stay. One of the biggest advantages is having a little more space than a traditional hotel room. It was nice to be able to relax outside and enjoy the surroundings rather than being confined to a single room. The Woodland Village also has its own play areas, entertainment and facilities, helping to make the accommodation feel like part of the holiday rather than simply somewhere to sleep. Check out my LEGOLAND Windsor Accommodation Article for my full review, photos and other options.

Where can you stay nearby?

LEGOLAND Windsor is close to Windsor, Slough, Bracknell and Ascot, so there are lots of family-friendly hotels nearby if you don’t want to stay on-site – or you’re looking to keep things more budget-friendly. Popular options include: Premier Inn Windsor Central, Holiday Inn Express Windsor, Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor, De Vere Beaumont Estate and Macdonald Windsor Hotel.

How much are LEGOLAND Windsor tickets and where can I find discounts?

Pre-booked standard LEGOLAND Windsor tickets typically cost around £30 per person. Avoid buying your tickets on the gate as they will be dearer – though children under 90cm can enter for free. Luckily, LEGOLAND also takes part in lots of discount schemes – so keep your eyes peeled to save some money on your entrance tickets. Here are some of the deals and discounts that I’ve come across for one day tickets to LEGOLAND Windsor:

  • Cereal boxes: Cereal brands like Kelloggs often run promotions where you can find discounts or even free tickets (things like 2 for 1) for LEGOLAND by purchasing specially-marked boxes.
  • Kids PassKids Pass is a subscription service that offers discounts on family days out – you can trial it for £1 so it’s well worth signing up.

merlin annual pass inclusions and costs

  • LEGOLAND Annual Pass: Merlin also recently introduced annual passes that are cheaper and park specific – you can get an annual pass for LEGOLAND Windsor from £64.

Chessington, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park or Legoland – which is best?

alton towers cbeebies land

Choosing the best theme park for your day out depends on your family’s interests and the ages of your children:

  • Thorpe Park is best suited to teenagers and older thrill-seekers. It has fewer rides for younger children and its focus is firmly on high-speed / high-intensity attractions, as well some awesome water rides. My teens LOVE Thorpe Park – check out my Thorpe Park Guide for all the details.
  • LEGOLAND Windsor is absolutely perfect for younger children with tamer rides, interactive LEGO-themed attractions, water play areas and impressive Miniland displays made from millions of LEGO bricks.
  • Alton Towers, while still offering major coasters like The Smiler, balances thrill rides with a more rounded family experience – it offers a variety of rides for kids of all ages as well as CBeebies Land for toddlers and little ones. Check out my Alton Towers Guide or my Alton Towers Hotel Review for more info.
  • Chessington World of Adventures is a fabulous family-friendly theme park. It combines gentle rides, a zoo and a SEA LIFE centre – making it ideal for children up to around 12 years old. It’s amazing for short breaks too (check out my Chessington Hotel Review) – we loved it!

Final thoughts

LEGOLAND Windsor is one of the best family attractions in the UK and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. If your kids are aged from around 3 years old, up to about 11 years old, it’s pretty hard to beat. The combination of rides, LEGO models and interactive experiences creates a genuinely unique day out. If you can stretch your budget to an overnight stay, I’d definitely recommend it – keep your eyes peeled for some short break offers. We loved our stay in the Woodland Village and felt it transformed the visit from a day out into a proper family getaway.
