2. Thrill-seek at La Récré des Trois Curés
La Récré des Trois Curés is one of Brittany’s largest amusement parks and offers a great mix of rides for the whole family. You’ll find rollercoasters, water rides, playgrounds and attractions suitable for younger children through to teenagers. It’s often less crowded than some of France’s larger theme parks, making for a more relaxed day out.

4. Wander the magical town of Dinan
Dinan feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The medieval town is filled with colourful half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and impressive historic buildings. The steep walk down to the harbour is particularly picturesque and older children often enjoy exploring the ancient town walls. It’s one of the prettiest towns in Brittany and perfect for a relaxed family day out.
5. Hop on a boat to Île-aux-Moines

Known as the “Pearl of the Gulf”, Île-aux-Moines is one of the most beautiful islands in the Gulf of Morbihan. A short ferry ride takes you to this peaceful destination where families can enjoy cycling, walking and relaxing on quiet beaches. Hiring bikes is a popular way to explore the island, especially with older children. Frugal Mum Tip: No need to book a pricey excursion, the ferry from nearby Baden (via Izenah Croisières) runs every 30 minutes and costs just a few euros per person.
6. Have fun with the kids at Cobac Parc

It’s a fantastic day out if you’re looking for something a little different from a traditional zoo.
8. Get back to nature at Huelgoat Forest
Huelgoat Forest feels like something from a fantasy story. The woodland is filled with giant boulders, caves, rivers and unusual rock formations. Popular spots include the Trembling Rock and the Devil’s Cave, which add a sense of adventure to any family walk and, best of all, it won’t cost you a penny!
9. Relax on Brittany’s beautiful beaches

Brittany is home to some of France’s most beautiful beaches. Whether you’re building sandcastles, paddling in the sea or enjoying a family picnic, a beach day is often one of the highlights of a Brittany holiday. Popular family beaches can be found around Saint-Malo, Dinard and Carnac, many with calm waters and soft sand. If the sun’s shining, you can enjoy lots of free fun on the sand
10. Enjoy the rides at Kingoland
Kingoland is a family-friendly theme park located in southern Brittany. The park offers a good mix of rollercoasters, water rides and attractions for younger children without the huge crowds often found at larger theme parks. It’s particularly well suited to families with primary-school-aged children.
11. Take a day trip to Mont Saint-Michel

Although technically located in Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel is close enough to the border that it’s one of the most popular day trips for families staying in northern Brittany. Rising dramatically from the bay, the island looks like something from a fairy tale. Kids will enjoy exploring the winding medieval streets, climbing towards the abbey and taking in the incredible views. Frugal Mum Tip: You can explore the village for free and use the free shuttle bus from the mainland car parks – we didn’t spend a penny! My Mont Saint-Michel Guide has all of the details.
12. Spend a relaxing day at Lac de Trémelin
Lac de Trémelin is a beautiful lake surrounded by woodland, walking trails and outdoor activities. Families can enjoy the small beach, hire paddleboards or simply spend the day relaxing by the water. It’s a great lower-cost alternative to some of the larger attractions and ideal for a laid-back summer day.
13. Discover the Gulf of Morbihan Coastline

The Gulf of Morbihan is one of Brittany’s most beautiful coastal regions. Families can take boat trips, visit islands, enjoy watersports or simply relax by the water. The sheltered waters make it a great area for family adventures and wildlife spotting. If you’re heading to Southern Brittany this one is a must – the area is just so beautiful.
14. Explore the Pink Granite Coast
The Pink Granite Coast is one of Brittany’s most spectacular natural attractions. Huge pink rock formations line the coastline, creating unusual landscapes to explore. There are plenty of family-friendly walking trails and beaches along the route, making it easy to spend a full day discovering the area.
15. Explore the impressive Fort La Latte

Perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the sea, Fort La Latte is one of Brittany’s most impressive castles. 18. Wait out the rain at Grand Aquarium Saint-Malo
One of the best things to do in Brittany on a rainy day, the Grand Aquarium Saint-Malo is the perfect way to entertain the kids if the weather lets you down. There are sharks, tropical fish, jellyfish and interactive exhibits designed to keep younger visitors entertained. The submarine simulator ride is usually a highlight. Frugal Mum Tip: Booking online in advance is often cheaper than buying tickets at the entrance.
19. Discover the Carnac Stones

The Carnac Stones are one of Brittany’s most unique attractions. Thousands of prehistoric standing stones stretch across the countryside, creating one of the largest megalithic sites in the world. It’s a fascinating place for children who enjoy history, mysteries and exploring outdoors. Much of the site can be viewed for free, making it a great budget-friendly stop.
20. Take a wildlife boat trip to the Sept-Îles
If your children love animals, a wildlife boat trip to the Sept-Îles Nature Reserve is one of the most memorable things to do in Brittany. Depending on the time of year, you may spot grey seals, gannets, cormorants and even Atlantic puffins. Frugal Mum Tip: Standard sightseeing cruises are often cheaper than dedicated wildlife tours and still visit many of the same wildlife-rich areas.
Tips for visiting Brittany with kids

- Visit outside the peak summer holidays if possible for lower prices and fewer crowds.
- Book major attractions online in advance where possible.

- Try a traditional Breton crêpe while you’re in the region. Sweet crêpes topped with chocolate or salted caramel are usually a big hit with children.

- If you’re heading to Mont Saint-Michel visit in the evening to reduce costs and lessen crowds.
When’s the best time to visit Brittany?
The best time to visit Brittany with kids is between May and September, when you’ll enjoy the warmest weather, longer daylight hours and the best chance of beach days. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with holiday parks, campsites and attractions operating at full capacity, but you’ll also find higher prices and larger crowds. For families looking to save money, May, June and September are often the sweet spot. The weather is usually pleasant enough for sightseeing, outdoor activities and even some beach time, while accommodation prices are often lower and popular attractions are much quieter.
