Here are 10 reasons why you should definitely visit Spain with kids, so if you’re wondering whether it’s worth a trip then keep reading and you’ll soon be convinced! We love exploring this amazing country, which gives the perfect blend of culture, relaxation, beaches and brilliant family attractions! Here’s why you’ll want to check out Spain with the kids for a family holiday…
1. Spain has some great family attractions
If you love a fun day out with the kids whilst you’re on holiday, then a trip to Spain is an excellent choice – there are loads of fantastic attractions to choose from to suit children of all ages. There are lots of theme parks options (including: PortAventura World, Puy du Fou España, Isla Mágica and Parque Warner), plenty of waterparks (like: Caribe Aquatic Park or Aqualandia) and some brilliant animal adventures too with places like L’Aquàrium de Barcelona or Bioparc Valencia. Find all the details in my guide: Spain with Kids: The 10 best family days out.

2. It’s surprisingly budget friendly
Spain is typically one of the best spots in Europe for an affordable family getaway – with loads of free walks, beaches and stunning historical sights which can be admired without spending a penny. The food costs are generally on par with the UK, so grabbing a food shop or eating out should be affordable, and there are plenty of budget friendly hotels and holiday park options too. If you’re looking at enjoying some of the attractions on offer during your visit, then use the Tiqets website – they have some great deals and lots of combination tickets which can be a great way to save money.
3. It’s home to some of the best cities in Europe
Barcelona has to be one of the most popular cities in Europe – and there’s actually lots of family-friendly things to do there with the kids so it’s definitely a great reason to visit Spain. With a mixture of culture, beauty and history it’s impossible to be bored, and every city offers a new family adventure – Granada is another gem if you’re further down south, and Madrid has lots to offer too. So if you heading to Spain, see which cities are close by and if you’re lucky enough to be near Barcelona, check out my guide: The 10 best things to do in Barcelona on a budget with kids.

4. The beaches are beautiful
If your kids love to build sandcastles and swim in the sea then Spain won’t disappoint because it’s home to some of the nicest sandy beaches in Europe. Whether you’re visiting the mainland, or one of the beautiful islands like Majorca, there are some stunning coastal spots for free family days out. So, pack up your bucket and spades and enjoy some time swimming and relaxing on the beautiful Spanish coastline.
5. Spain has some of the best family resorts
If you’re looking for waterslides, big swimming pools and entertainment for the kids then Spain has some of the best family holiday parks and hotels! For loads of brilliant Eurocamp options, with short transfer times to make it easy with the kids, check out my article: Which Eurocamp resorts in Spain are near airports? There are also loads of great package holiday deals to be found from companies like Jet2holidays and TUI – these are a great option if you’d like flights and transfers included, or you’d like to have a break from cooking with half-board or all inclusive deals.

6. It’s only a short flight from the UK
One of the best reasons why Spain is a brilliant place to visit with the kids is that you can get there from the UK in as little as 2 hours. Travelling with little ones can be pretty stressful, so choosing somewhere with a relatively quick and easy flight time is a great idea if you have young children. It’ll also help you to avoid jet lag, and if you use Skyscanner to shop around there are usually some great flight prices for trips with the budget airlines.
7. There’s something for every season
Spain is a fabulous family summer beach holiday destination, but it also lends itself really well to the other seasons too. If you want to do some city exploring then it can be handy for it to be a bit cooler, so the shoulder seasons either side of the summer can be great for that. At Christmas you can enjoy a market, or even take the kids skiing at a resort in Andorra (in the North of Spain) or the Sierra Nevada in the South. Spain might not be your first thought for a winter break, but there’s certainly something for every season!

8. The food is child-friendly
Even the fussiest of kids will love the food in Spain. As well as favourites like Paella, so many restaurants in Spain cater to the English so if you’ve got little ones who are a bit fussy then you’ll easily be able to hunt out a pizza, pasta or rice dish for the kids. In the main tourist areas you’ll likely even be able to find a full English breakfast if you fancy it!
9. The weather is lovely
Yes you might still get the odd shower or overcast day but the climate in Spain is generally sunny and mild – and it’s definitely better than the UK! 😂 The temperature tends to be warmer in the South so if you’re visiting out of season (but still in search of sunshine!) then it might be wise to explore further down the country. But Northern and Central Spain are still lovely and warm from around May through to September where the temperature will likely be in the 20s and beyond. The great weather is likely one of the main reasons that Spain is great country to visit with the kids for a family holiday in the sunshine.

10. Spain has great public transport
If you’d prefer to fly to Spain, but don’t want to hire a car to enjoy the sights and attractions, then you’ll be pleased to know that the public transport is really efficient and easy to use. We used the train several times on our last trip to get from Salou to both Barcelona and Tarragona, and there was the option of bus services too. Once in the city, the Metro is the best option for getting around easily without the little ones legs getting tired.
