Holiday: June 2024
Domaine des Naiades Review
In June 2024, we embarked on another budget European road trip using Eurocamp campsites to hop between as usual. We drove from Calais to Luxembourg to spend five nights at hu Birkelt Village Campsite, before having at short stop off at Chateau de Galaure Campsite on our way to the South of France, where we stayed at Domaine des Naiades for a week. We really enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine at Domaine des Naiades, on the French Riviera, and after a few overcast days (which we used to explore without melting!) the sun came out in full force for some chilling in the swimming pool. So here’s my review and everything that you need to know about staying with Eurocamp at Domaine des Naiades in France.

What was Domaine des Naiades like?

Domaine des Naiades, near Port Grimaud, was a great holiday park. All of the entertainment, the restaurant, the shop and the pool area were right at the front of the site grouped together. This made it really easy to access everything, and kept the area for the accommodation really quiet and peaceful. We were right at the top of the campsite which was amazing, and honestly it’s the best I’ve ever slept on holiday! The only noise we had near our accommodation were the cicadas during the day! It was quite a hilly site, and a good twenty minute walk each way from where we were at the top of the park. But there was a car park near the pool area so if we didn’t fancy the walk we drove down to front of the site and parked up to enjoy the facilities.

We didn’t try the food in the restaurant or the take-out, as we did all of our own cooking at our holiday home, but the take-out was reasonably priced and the ice-creams were around €2.50-€4. The animation team were super smiley and enthusiastic, running activities throughout the day and evening if you wanted to join in. The kids joined in with Lotto on one of the evenings, and they showed the football on the big screen too. There was also a playpark, again right near all of the other facilities at the front of the site. The staff were really friendly and helpful too – we arrived at 2.30pm and even though check in was at 4pm we were able to get into our accommodation straight away.
What was the swimming pool like?

The swimming pool at Domaine des Naiades was enormous! It’s Olympic sized so there was plenty of space to swim or play. It had a diving area down at the far end, which was extremely deep, so we kept the kids in the first half of the pool unless we were in there with them or sitting at the edge, just to be safe. They loved jumping in off the diving boards – but we’re still working on their diving not ending in a belly flop! 😂 The water was a really nice temperature, which is something I never say! Even on an overcast day the water wasn’t cold – I can be a massive wimp about getting in (I’m always cold!) but it was really pleasant and easy to get in. They had the pool temperature listed on a board nearby and I believe it was heated.

There were two big flumes, and the kids thought they were brilliant – the bigger the better as far as they’re concerned! They spent a lot of time going up and down the stairs using the slides. There were a few times that pool area was really busy (despite it being term-time in June) but where the pool was so big it didn’t feel crowded at all. Having said that, we did have times where there were only a few spare sun beds, so that might be something to think about if you’re visiting over the peak summer months.

There was also a paddling pool for toddlers which was well used by the families with little ones, with mum’s sitting to cool off while the children played safely. It was a good pool area that catered for everyone, and was overseen by lifeguards too. We also loved that it was open from 10am until 7pm, so we could still make the most of it even if we’d been out having some adventures in the day time.

Local Area: What is there to do near Domaine des Naiades?
Port Grimaud

Domaine des Naiades is only a 2km walk (or a 5 minute car journey) from Port Grimaud. It’s such a quaint area, we really loved our afternoon exploring. The area is known as the French Riviera’s ‘Little Venice’ as it’s a set of island areas joined by bridges with canals in between. There was a market selling crafts and artisan goods, as well as restaurants and ice-cream shops dotted around. It was surprisingly busy for a random term-time Monday afternoon, but there were lots of other holiday parks nearby, and the beach too, so I assume it’s a popular area for tourists. If you’re heading to Domaine des Naiades for a family holiday, you have to wander around ‘Little Venice’. It really did have such a lovely vibe, and you can hire little boats to explore on if you fancy it too.

The beach

As I mentioned above, the seafront is also just along from ‘Little Venice’ so it’s a good area for a day of exploring. There were pedalos for hire along the water’s edge, and the view was lovely. The beach is sand and it was a clean – it was cloudy when we visited but I imagine it would be lovely on a warm sunny day.
City visits
There are also lots of city visits possible with a train tip or within driving distance of Domaine des Naiades. Places like Marseille, Cannes and Nice are all along the coast from there if you want to venture further afield and do some exploring. Aix en Provence is also supposed to be lovely, and we passed Lyon on our way down to the South of France so that could be a good stop off too if you’re travelling by road.
St Tropez

St Tropez is about a 10 minute drive from Domaine des Naiades. The harbour was absolutely rammed with boats and yachts, which got bigger and posher as we walked along! The kids loved having a wander and looking at them, it’s a nice thing to do of an evening when it cools down a bit. The town area was lined with expensive shops, and my son enjoyed car spotting the posh cars as people came and went. There’s a twenty minute boat ride that you can take from Port Grimaud to St Tropez if you fancy an adventure on the sea – we didn’t get around to doing it – but there were quite a few boat rides available for things like that, beaches and nature spotting.

Monaco

One of the highlights of the trip for my son Finn was visiting Monaco – he’s obsessed with cars! It was supposed to be around a 90 minute drive from Grimaud, though in reality it was probably around two hours. We parked nearer the outskirts, costing us €11 for the afternoon, and walked down into the centre of it all. We hit the usual tourist hot spots – visiting the harbour and the infamous casino – and just generally wandered about. It really is a rich person’s playground more than anything else – lots of posh boats, posh cars and expensive shops. It wasn’t really my kind of place, and it was very busy, but it made Finn’s entire year car spotting so it was worth the trip!

Was the accommodation good?

We booked a 3 bedroom accommodation from the Eurocamp Premium Exclusive range for the first time and weren’t disappointed – it was one our favourite holiday homes to date! The accommodation was larger than lots of the other holiday homes that we’ve stayed in so it felt a lot more spacious than usual – helped also by good storage so we weren’t too cluttered living out of suitcases. It had a large dishwasher, a microwave, a toaster, a hob, air-conditioning and a kettle – the only thing we really missed was not having an oven!

I managed on the hob cooking things like curry, pasta, toasties etc so it wasn’t terrible but it’s definitely easier to have an oven too. The oven used to come as standard (or at least everywhere we stayed always had one) but it’s definitely a bit hit and miss now. Booking from Eurocamp’s Premium Exclusive range meant that we got towels and bed linen included – we had some with us anyway from our other stops along the way but particularly if you’re flying and can’t just load up the car that would be handy. It also came with free wifi which saved our data.

The holiday home seemed very new (it was spotless!) and we loved its position overlooking a nature area at the top of campsite – it was so peaceful and felt really private. We had electronic entry keys, attached to our wristbands, which was a first and quite handy for not having to dig to find the key at the bottom of the swimming bag. The icing on the cake was the TV! This was the first time that we’d had a TV on a Eurocamp holiday – we usually just watch things on the laptop which isn’t quite the same – so it was a major bonus to be able to chill and watch Netflix of an evening when we’d had a busy day. The beds were really comfortable too!

The only issue that we had with our accommodation during our stay was with the drains. The shower didn’t drain properly and then suddenly the toilet didn’t either! The maintenance guy on site was definitely to be commended though, he tried to fix it by pumping out from our holiday home, but when he realised it was the main drain he called a massive truck to come and sort the drains out properly. So, though it was a bit of an inconvenience, I can’t complain really as the staff dealt with it well and promptly.

I must confess that one of the main reasons that we booked this range of accommodation was because it included the end of stay cleaning. For some reason, even though cleaning is included in all other countries, in France you can only get the cleaning service included if you book from the Eurocamp’s higher level ranges of accommodation. For us, the price different between that and the lower range was only £70 so we thought it was worth the extra to avoid mopping on holiday 😂 and for all of the other extras that this holiday home came with.

For more info on the accommodation options, and to find out what to pack / what’s included, read my post: Eurocamp Holidays: Which accommodation should I choose? What’s included?
What facilities are on site at Domaine des Naiades?

- The shop on-site was large and well stocked – though more expensive than the local supermarkets. They had freshly baked bits, essentials and also extras like beach bits / goggles. A fresh baguette started from around €1 – so it would be easy to have cheap lunches and picnics if you wanted to pack up a picnic. Aside from fresh bread, we did our main shopping for the week at Lidl, which was just a 7 minute drive away and generally priced similarly to our usual shopping back home. We stocked up on things like ice-creams too (as the holiday home fridges have a freezer section) and it definitely saves a lot compared to buying them from the resorts.
- We were able to park directly in front of the holiday home that we stayed in, making it easy to load and unload the car of luggage and food shopping. Most Eurocamp accommodation doesn’t come with a TV – it’s only included with their higher ranges – so it’s handy to take a tablet or laptop with you with some movies for when you want a quiet evening if it’s not included with your holiday home type.
- All of the staff that we met on our trip were friendly, helpful and spoke very good English. They were also very helpful and efficient when we needed an issue resolved with our accommodation. There is no separate Eurocamp check in / reps at this one – Eurocamp own Homair Parcs, so it’s all combined.
Getting to the South of France from the UK
Domaine des Naiades is about an 11 hour drive from Calais if you’re taking a road trip. The roads in France are generally great, but we did hit traffic when we got near the Lyon area which added a good hour or two onto the journey both there and back. We came from Luxembourg for this one stopping at Chateau de Galaure Campsite on the way down to break up the journey – as it was £93 for two nights so far cheaper than a hotel. We then booked a hotel on the way back further up towards Calais, about 7 hours into the drive home.

If you’re wanting to fly to avoid the long drive to Domaine des Naiades then the nearest airport is Toulon which is 48km away (about an hour by road). But, there are also airports at Cannes, Nice and Marseille so it’s worth comparing flight prices as they’re all within reach. How much does a Eurocamp holiday at Domaine des Naiades cost – was it good value for money?
Hopefully my review has been helpful – our 7 night stay at Domaine des Naiades in France, at the end of June, in a Eurocamp Premium Exclusive holiday home was £627. Averaging out at around £90 per night, it was the most we’ve spent on accommodation on our Eurocamp travels so far – I think this was largely down to visiting in June (we often travel in September) and opting for the higher level of accommodation. Despite it being dearer than our other trips, we really enjoyed our stay and it was good value for money for the holiday home we had and the facilities. It was a really relaxing spot, with good adventures in driving distance, and we had such a lovely time we wished we’d had a few extra days – we definitely weren’t ready to come home to the rainy UK summer! As we home-educate the kids, we are fortunate to be able travel term-time which is a great money saver, but if you’re restricted to school holiday dates then look for May half-term getaways – they’re always so much cheaper than the summer holidays! But, having said that, affordable school summer holiday travel is possible – I went hunting on the Eurocamp website and found 50 family holidays under £1k for August 2026 – with prices starting from less than £300! (There were more but I ran out of steam! 😂) You might also want to check out my article: The 20 best Eurocamp family holidays in the South of France for more great family-friendly getaway options in the sunny South of France.
