If you’re in the Lindau area of Bavaria, Germany, over the summer months then make sure you visit Freibad Aquamarin Wasserburg – it’s the most amazing outdoor swimming pool nestled on the shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee). It’s super cheap too – so it’s the perfect budget-friendly family day out with the kids in Lindau. If you’re looking for a day out that combines fun, relaxation and stunning views without blowing the family budget, then look no further. This charming outdoor swimming pool (or Freibad) offers everything a family could want for a refreshing and affordable day out in the sun. With its breathtaking location, it’s the perfect spot for frugal families to enjoy a day making summer memories. As well as my review, and details of the facilities, I’ve added some photos too so that you can see what I mean! 😍
Location: Swimming with a view
Freibad Aquamarin is situated in Wasserburg, a small town on a peninsula jutting out into the vast Lake Constance. The Freibad offers stunning panoramic views of the lake, with the majestic Alps providing a dramatic backdrop. Whether you’re floating in the outdoor pools or relaxing on the sunbathing lawns, the scenery alone makes this place special. Imagine swimming with views of both the lake and mountains – it’s a picture-perfect setting, ideal for a summer family outing.

Facilities: Something for all ages
The Freibad offers a range of pools and activities suitable for all ages, making it the perfect spot for families with children of various ages. Let’s take a closer look at what’s on offer:
- Lake access: One of the most unique features of Freibad Aquamarin is direct access to Lake Constance itself. There’s a designated area for swimming in the lake so, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can trade the pool for the cool clear waters of the Bodensee. The lake is calm and safe for swimmers, and there’s a roped-off section for added peace of mind when swimming with children. Nothing beats taking a dip in the lake with the Alps in the background – it’s a memory your family won’t forget.
- Playground: If your kids need a break from the water, the on-site playground is a great way to burn off some extra energy.
- Main swimming pool: The large, heated outdoor pool is perfect for adults and older kids who want to swim laps or simply splash around in the refreshing water. It’s spacious and, even on busier days, there’s plenty of room to swim leisurely.

- Children’s pool: For families with younger children, Aquamarin has a shallow children’s pool, complete with water features to keep the little ones entertained. The water is warmer than in the main pool, making it ideal for toddlers and babies who aren’t quite ready for cooler lake water. There’s also a brilliant waterslide – my kids loved it!

- Sunbathing lawns and shaded areas: If swimming isn’t your thing, or if you just want to relax while the kids play, the expansive sunbathing lawns offer plenty of space to spread out. There are areas with shade provided by trees, which is perfect for families with small children who need a break from the sun.
- Café and kiosk: No need to worry about packing a full picnic if you don’t want to – the Freibad has a small café and kiosk offering reasonably priced snacks, ice creams and drinks. Alternatively, bring your own food and settle down with your packed lunch on one of the grassy areas.
- Water sports: If the kids fancy some water sports – pedal boats, canoes and paddle boards can also be rented. So, it would be insanely easy to pack up a picnic and visit for a whole day. There’s so much on offer to keep everyone busy!

How much does a trip to Freibad Aquamarin Wasserburg cost?
The entrance fees were so cheap, making it an affordable option for families on a budget. A family swim cost €10.50 – but we paid just €9.50 with our ECHT discount given to us at our campsite (Gitzenweiler Hof) – that’s less than £8! Parking was only €2 for about four hours if I remember rightly too. (I wish days out like this were as cheap in the UK!)
Review: Our afternoon at Freibad Aquamarin Wasserburg
As a mum of two, I’m always on the lookout for affordable days out that tick all the boxes -entertainment, relaxation and value for money. Freibad Aquamarin Wasserburg definitely delivered on all fronts. We had a very spontaneous visit as, though we visited near the end of September, the weather was absolutely beautiful so I stumbled across this place looking for somewhere we could take a swim by the lake. The children’s swimming pool was a big hit with my kids and they spent ages on the slide. The views across the lake were gorgeous and honestly to look at it you would never have guessed we were in Germany – it felt rather tropical!

Inside there were toilets, showers and changing rooms which were all clean and well maintained – you’ll need a euro for the lockers. Overall, it was a fantastic day out that didn’t cost a fortune. My kids had an absolute blast, and I got to enjoy the stunning views and relaxed atmosphere whilst reading my book in peace. I hope that my review has been helpful – Freibad Aquamarin Wasserburg is a hidden gem that offers an affordable day out with something for everyone – this swimming pool overlooking Lake Constance has got to be the best place to take a dip in Lindau?!
Whether you’re looking to swim in the lake, relax by the pool or just enjoy a family picnic with stunning views, this Freibad delivers it all at a budget-friendly price.
