Isle of Wight with Kids: Robin Hill Country Park Review

If you’re planning a fun day out with the kids in the Isle of Wight, then you’ll definitely want to read my review of Robin Hill Country Park. I’ve included photos of our visit, information about what’s there, who the park is suitable for, entrance costs and more! We had a brilliant week in the Isle of Wight – it’s a fantastic place to visit with the kids, with lots of days out in easy driving distance. The weather was boiling so we felt like we were abroad too, which is always a bonus!

We stayed with Parkdean Resorts at Lower Hyde Holiday Park – which we booked for the bargain price of £78 through the Sun Newspaper Holidays. Finn and Lola absolutely adored the toboganning – they spent hours on it! Robin Hill has since been closed and, under new management, it’s had a bit of a makeover. We hope to get back for another visit soon as they’ve added some new attractions (read more about this below) – though it looks like all of the older bits are still there too and I’ve included photos of these. So, I’ve blended my initial review with all of the information you’ll need if you’re planning to head to the new and improved Robin Hill Country Park for 2025 on the fabulous island of the Isle of Wight.

Visit: June 2022 (Updated March 2025)

When does Robin Hill Country Park open?

Robin Hill Country Park officially reopens in April 2025 – make sure you let me know what you think if you manage to make it there for a visit before we do! On a day-to-day basis it appears to be open from 10am to 4.30/5pm with 7 days a week available at peak times, and closure on Mondays and Tuesdays during the off-peak months.

Where is Robin Hill located?

Robin Hill Country Park is located in Downend, near Newport, on the Isle of Wight – it’s about a 10-20 minute drive from the ferry terminals at Cowes, Fishbourne or Ryde. Parking is free and there’s plenty of space to park. Public transport is an option, with Southern Vectis bus stopping nearby, but it does require a bit of a walk from the nearest stop. Set across 88 acres of beautiful woodland and parkland, it offers a mix of adventure playgrounds, outdoor activities and peaceful nature trails.

What rides and attractions are there at Robin Hill Country Park?

Robin Hill Country Park is more outdoorsy than Blackgang Chine – the other big attraction park on the island. The attractions are dotted around woodland and countryside, so it’s more of a natural place to visit. The park itself is ideal for families who love adventure. There’s a great selection of play areas and activities for kids, including the treetop Jungle Heights, the Canopy Skywalk, the Squirrel Tower and the toboggan run. Robin Hill is definitely more about adventure playgrounds and open spaces than big rides. Younger children will love the African Adventure Playground, the woodland maze and the duck pond, where you can take a breather and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Robin Hill Country Park is set to reopen on the 4th of April 2025, with an exciting range of brand new attractions including things like a mini-diggers experience – perfect for little ones who love construction-themed play. Another major highlight is an 18 hole crazy golf course which is great for kids (and adults!) of all ages. The park is also introducing an electric boat safari – with crocodiles popping up from the water – which sounds like great fun! And, an indoor ice rink has also been added for year-round skating regardless of the weather. These new features, combined with the park’s already popular woodland trails and adventure play areas, should make a trip to Robin Hill country park even more enjoyable.

For our visit, Finn and Lola were just completely obsessed with the toboggan run! They spent hours on it which was so relaxing for us because we chilled at the cafe next to it whilst they happily went on it again. And again. And again! 😂 At the time, the toboggan run was £1.50 per go, or £10pp for a gold band that allowed you ride as many times as you like. We went for the gold bands, as our two loved it so much, but it now looks to be £1-£2 per go depending on the children’s age, with free rides for members.

What age is Robin Hill Country Park suitable for?

Previously, I would have said if you’ve got kids between the age of about 3 and 12 then this sort of family adventure park would be spot on but, having said that, my two are now 12 and 13 and they really want another tobogganing day! With the addition of the new areas, like the ice rink, I think they’ve made the park more appealling to families with kids of all ages. There are bits for older and younger kids, and plenty to keep everyone entertained – adults included!

What facilities are there at Robin Hill?

For families looking to save money, bringing a picnic is definitely the best option. The park has plenty of benches and grassy spots where you can enjoy your own food, there is so much countryside to be enjoyed, but there are cafés and kiosks on-site if you’d like to buy some food there. (I can’t comment on the quality of the food as we didn’t purchase anything other than ice-creams for the kids.) There are toilets and baby-changing facilities dotted throughout the site, and there’s good accessibility in many areas, though some of the steeper woodland paths could be tricky for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Dogs are welcome if well behaved and on a short lead.

How long do you need at Robin Hill Country Park?

Personally, I think it’s easy to spend a good 5 hours at Robin Hill. It’s best suited for families with children who love climbing, exploring and playing, rather than those looking for high-adrenaline rides, but the combination of play areas, nature walks and open spaces makes it a fantastic place for the kids to burn off some energy. Honestly, my two were just obsessed with the toboggan ride – but I think with the addition of the ice-skating and other bits like the boat safari too, it looks like there would be even more on offer to fill the whole day.

How much does it cost to visit Robin Hill Adventure Park – is it good value for money?

Children under 1m can enter the park for free. For 2025, standard admission tickets range from £14.99 – £21.99 dependent on the date, with a family ticket ranging from £59.99 – £79.99. You can use their calendar online to see the price for your date – and the higher ticket prices run at peak times over the school holidays. It’s also worth noting that tickets are slightly cheaper pre-booked online than purchased on the gate. You can also extend your visit for a couple of quid, if you’d like to revisit Robin Hill within a 7 day period.

Previously, I would have said that Robin Hill wasn’t the best value for money – particularly as we had to pay out more for the toboggan and there weren’t a huge amount of attractions. At the time, we paid £40pp for joint tickets to both Robin Hill Country Park and Blackgang Chine Theme Park (these are no longer offered) and another £23 for the toboggan as Jay and I had a go too! However, with the cost coming down, and the new attractions that have been added, I actually think it now looks like pretty good value for a family day out with lots to do – off-peak a family of four can visit for just under £60 in total – which makes it a lot more affordable than some other family attractions.

So, if you’re visiting the Isle of Wight I think that Robin Hill Country Park is well worth a visit – I hope that my review has been helpful! For lots of family holiday itinerary ideas for your trip, check out my guide: The 10 best things to do on the Isle of Wight with kids.

Where are the best places for families to stay near Robin Hill Adventure Park?

We’ve been to the Isle of Wight several times with the kids – for our last trip we stayed at Lower Hyde Holiday Park and had a lovely time – check out my Lower Hyde Review for more info. There are 6 holiday parks in particular that are well set up for families when it comes to kids’ activities, swimming pools, their proximity to the island’s best beaches and attractions, and a wide range accommodation options to suit all budgets. How do I get to the Isle of Wight?

Getting to the Isle of Wight is super easy, with regular ferries running from various locations on the south coast. The main ferry operators, Wightlink and Red Funnel, offer services from Portsmouth, Lymington and Southampton. If you’re travelling by car, you can take a vehicle ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, Lymington to Yarmouth, or Southampton to East Cowes. If you’re on foot, there are high-speed passenger ferries, such as the Wightlink FastCat from Portsmouth to Ryde or the Red Jet from Southampton to West Cowes, which take just 20-30 minutes. The ferry ride itself is part of the adventure – I think it really adds to the magic of a family holiday on the Isle of Wight.
