Where is Efteling theme park – how do I get there from the UK?
Efteling theme park is in the Netherlands – a small country in Northwestern Europe, bordered by Germany and Belgium. Getting to Efteling from the UK is really simple – in fact it’s the perfect destination for a road trip – take the ferry from Dover to Calais (or the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais – though it’s a bit pricier than the ferry) and it’s then just a 3.5 hour drive on a toll free route. If you live further up the country, you can also take a ferry from Harwich directly to the Hook of Holland port in the Netherlands.
If you’d prefer to fly, Eindhoven Airport is the closest to Efteling – and from there it’s about 40 minutes by car if you’re looking at a transfer or hiring a car. Or make use of public transport and take a train and bus combo (Eindhoven > Tilburg > Efteling), which is fairly straightforward and likely cheaper. You can also fly from Amsterdam Airport though it’s a bit further away from Efteling – about 1 hour 15 minutes by car – but if you’ve got more time or want to explore Amsterdam too this could be a good option. Trains run regularly from Amsterdam to Tilburg or ‘s-Hertogenbosch, and you can catch a bus to Efteling from there.

When’s the best time to visit Efteling?
So, you know which holiday parks are near Efteling Theme Park, but when’s the best time to go? Personally, I think the best time to visit Efteling is during the shoulder seasons so April – early June, or September – October in the autumn time. For May and September trips in particular, the weather’s still lovely, the crowds are thinner and you’ll often bag cheaper flights and accommodation too. Avoid the peak summer months if you can – July and August can get very busy with local and international tourists, and queue times will obviously be impacted.

Having said that if you’re visiting the Netherlands for your family summer holiday, and including an Efteling visit with your getaway, don’t panic too much about visiting in the school holidays. The queues times are known for not being as bad as other popular theme parks like Disneyland Paris. Christmas time at Efteling is also absolutely enchanting, with twinkling lights and a wintery atmosphere, but again, it’s a popular time so book early if you want a wintery visit.
