Who is Frugal Mum?

A bit about me…

Hi, I’m Natalie Smith – AKA Frugal Mum. I’m a frugal, home-educating mum living on the Kent coast with my husband Jay, our two children (Finn and Lola) and our dog Milo. An ex-primary school teacher, I now work as a budget family travel blogger and content creator. I hope that my website will help you and your family to save money and enjoy budget holidays in the UK and Europe – so you can spend less and travel more! Life is far too short, and the kids grow so quickly, so I hope my tips and deals will mean you can make lots of fantastic memories with the kids in an affordable way. I’ve recently jumped into the world of video – so come and join me on Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok to follow our adventures.

Sign up to the Frugal Mum Travel Club FREE Newsletter to get handpicked budget family travel deals (for the UK and Europe) sent straight to your inbox – I hunt out both term-time steals and school holiday deals as I know that can be so hard for lots of families. (The school fines are crazy now aren’t they!) I share lots of Eurocamp holiday deals too – we’ve been to 20 Eurocamp resorts since 2020 – I’m totally addicted and they gave me the title of Official Eurocamp Brand Ambassador in 2025. So, if you love a Eurocamp holiday you’re certainly in the right place! 😂 We find it a really cost effective way to travel in Europe with the kids, and you can find all of my Eurocamp reviews and travel guides here on the blog.

Where else can you find me?

I partnered with HMRC to be the face of their Child Benefit online campaign – raising awareness for their new digital application process, to make it even easier for new parents to apply.

In 2023, I worked on a big article for a pull out in the Daily Mail – sharing my money saving tips for their ‘Beat the Squeeze’ campaign! Want to save £3k for your summer holiday? I’ve got you covered! 😉

I’ve been a guest blogger for websites like Preloved. Plus, my articles have been shared on lots of social media pages and websites such as Eurocamp, Quidco, The Parent Bible and Twinkl. I also work closely with brands like Eurocamp, Parkdean Resorts, Away Resorts, Wild Deodorant and Merlin, with whom I have ongoing paid partnerships.

In 2024, ironically while on a UK Staycation in the Peak District, I did a live segment sharing my UK Staycation on a Budget tips on BBC London Radio – and joined them again multiple times across 2025. I was also featured in the Sun Newspaper (and on their website) sharing my tips for booking affordable family holidays – frugal family travel on a budget is definitely my speciality!

I’ve done multiple radio segments for BBC Radio Kent, and featured on the BBC News website and app too. As well as being featured in the Sun Online, Yahoo, Birmingham Mail Live, MSN, My London, the Daily Star and in the Dover Express discussing how to save money on UK days out with the kids and holidays. Across 2025, sharing our frugal living tips and how we save for travel, I was also featured in online publications Kent Online, Manchester Evening News, Kent Live, Lancs Live, MSN and the Sun Online, as well as in the Dover Express and Daily Express Newspapers.

For press trips I’ve worked with all sorts of fabulous companies like Eurocamp, Go Ape, Paultons Park, Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, The Milky Way Theme Park, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and more! And, we’ve been all over the place with Merlin too – reviewing lots of their UK attractions, short breaks and theme parks.

How did Frugal Mum start?

There was a time when our income was very small and, with two young children, I had to become pretty good at keeping costs down so that we could stay afloat. Frugal living became part of our every day habits, and cutting back (and doing everything on a tiny budget!) was the only way we were able to afford days out and holidays with the kids. We totally caught the travel bug a few years ago so we work hard to make sure that we can travel on a budget so that we can get away as much as possible! There are lots of travel and day out reviews, destination inspiration and guides, money-saving tips and holiday deals here – so have a good look around if you’re planning a trip. We love to travel in the UK and Europe with the kids – and we especially love road trips!
