Eurocamp France: The 5 best Vendée holiday parks for families

There are some incredible Eurocamp resorts in France – so I’ve put together a list of my top picks for the best Eurocamp holiday parks in Vendée for families. We find Eurocamp such a fantastic way to explore Europe with the kids because they offer lots of budget-friendly places to stay to make family travel affordable, and we had one of our best holidays with the kids in Vendée. It’s a brilliant place to visit with so much to do, and it’s a great road trip destination as it’s only a short drive from Caen or Calais if you’re travelling by ferry. So here are my top 5 picks for the best Eurocamp holiday parks in Vendée, France, for families:

1. Eurocamp: Le Pin Parasol

For a luxury feel, Le Pin Parasol is an absolute gem. Nestled next to Lake Jaunay, and just a short drive from the coast, this 5 star park in Vendée is a great base for a family Eurocamp holiday. The site boasts indoor and outdoor heated pools, waterslides and splash areas, a huge playground, an indoor play room, a skateboarding park, sports and all sorts! Plus, you can hire a pedalo or fish on the lake. A seven minute drive away, you’ll find the awesome Le Grand Défi Adventure Park and you can reach Puy du Fou theme park in around an hour. We had the most amazing stay, I can’t recommend it enough, check out my Le Pin Parasol Review for all the details. The nearest airport to Le Pin Parasol is Nantes, just over an hour away, or drive from Caen in 4 hours or Calais in 6.5 hours. It boasts an impressive aquatic complex with waterslides, fountains and a heated pool for all-weather swimming. Though they have lots on offer for older children, the splash pool is perfect for toddlers and younger ones. A short 5 minute walk will take you to the sandy shores, and there are several playgrounds for the children too. Nearby, you’ll find the Atlantic Toboggan waterpark and you can visit Île d’Yeu for an island adventure. The nearest airport to Le Domaine du Clarys is Nantes, around an hour away, or drive from Caen in 4 hours or Calais in 7 hours. Tucked away in the lush Vendée countryside, La Garangeoire is one of the best options for families looking for a quieter Eurocamp holiday in France. It’s set on a grand estate with lakes, forest trails and even horse riding – great for kids who love the outdoors. There’s a lovely, relaxed vibe but plenty to keep the little ones busy with its swimming pools, mini-golf, a playground and even pedalos on the lake. It’s got that rustic French charm but with all the convenience of a Eurocamp setup. It’s just a short drive to the coast, and Puy du Fou is also around an hour away. The nearest airport to La Garangeoire is Nantes, which is just over an hour away, or drive from Caen in 4 hours or Calais in 6.5 hours. Set in the grounds of a 19th-century château, Château La Forêt is a smaller quieter site with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. There’s a swimming pool with waterslides, a French restaurant and plenty of space for the kids to play but the real bonus is what’s next door! It neighbours the brilliant Le Grand Defi Adventure Park – one of Finn and Lola’s favourite places! With tree-top rope courses, zip lines, a lake aqua park, laser tag, paint-balling and more – it’s perfect for entertaining older kids and teens! How do I travel from the UK to my Eurocamp holiday in France?

For ferry and channel crossings to/from Calais Eurocamp have access to discounted slots which are usually significantly cheaper than booking directly. The prices fluctuate slightly, but a return on the ferry from Dover to Calais is typically £100 (it was £112 for an example holiday on 8-15th Aug and ours was £95 in September) and the Le Shuttle Channel Crossing is around £250 (it was £254 for 8-15th Aug and a similar price for us in June). These costs were based on August dates – the price doesn’t really seem to change during peak school holiday times which is awesome!

Other routes: I’m not certain how many different ferry routes Eurocamp offer, but if you are looking for affordable options to/from a different location then the Direct Ferries website is the best place to look. It’s a comparison website for ferry travel so you can easily see all of the prices from different companies, which route options are available and any current offers running. If it’s not included then Direct Ferries is definitely the next best place to look for cheap ferry options.

For Eurocamp holidays with flights – You can’t book your flights through Eurocamp as a package deal, so you’ll need to book the flights yourself if you’d prefer not to drive. When it comes to the budget airlines, I think the best options are Jet2 and EasyJet – and for price comparison the Skyscanner website can be a great place to start. You can sort car hire easily on websites like Expedia, or book your transfers to and from the airport on the Suntransfers website before you go to make your trip stress free.

Where is Vendée in France?

Nestled on the west coast of France, just below Brittany and above La Rochelle, Vendée is part of the Pays de la Loire region. It’s known for its gorgeous coastline, pine forests and plenty of child-friendly campsites – ideal for frugal family holidays. One of the most cost-effective ways to get from the UK to Vendée (especially for families) is to drive. You can take a ferry to Caen and from there it’s a short 3.5 – 4 hour drive, or if you’re taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone or a ferry from Dover to Calais the drive is around 6.5 hours. If you’d prefer, you can also fly to Nantes – the closest major airport to Vendée. From there, you can hire a car and be on the coast in about an hour or so – or La Rochelle airport is nearby too.

What is there to do in the Vendée region?

Well this is the best bit – you’ve got historical theme park Puy du Fou which was one of our favourite days out ever! The whole park is filled with these elaborate shows set around different periods of history. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the sets and the shows – which had us mesmerised the entire day! It was like being on a movie set with fire, stunts, fight scenes and all sorts. You absolutely can’t visit Vendée without spending a day there – check out my Puy du Fou guide for all the details. As I mentioned above, Le Grand Defi Adventure Park is perfect for entertaining the kids too – there’s so much to do there we went back twice on our last trip! Click here for more info on Le Grand Defi – it’s so much fun! (Coming soon!)

Alongside that, there are gorgeous sandy beaches and you can also have an island visit – choose from Ile d’Yeu or Ile de Noirmoutier. Or check out the animals at Planete Sauvage safari park, cycle the Vendee, step back in time at Talmont-St-Hilaire Castle, or spend a day at Chateau des Aventuriers which has loads on offer for families with young children. Make sure you check out my article: The 10 best things to do in Vendée with kids for all the details and even more ideas for family days out – there are some many things to do in the Vendée region you’ll not have time to get bored!

Absolutely – I hope this article has helped you to find the best Eurocamp spot for your holiday and I’m sure that you’ll agree that Vendée is a fantastic destination for families if you’re after a trip to France with sunshine, beaches and days out with the kids. It’s less touristy than places like the south of France, but that’s part of the charm – it’s easier on the wallet, quieter in peak season and still offers loads for families. If you’re after a budget-friendly family road trip, it’s also not too far from ports like Caen and Calais, so it’s a great location for travelling with kids.
