Day Out with the Kids: Puxton Adventure Park Review, Somerset

June 2023

We recently had a brilliant week away, using Butlins Minehead as our base for the week, and one of the places that we decided to visit was Puxton Adventure Park.

What’s there for the kids to do?

Puxton Adventure Park has lots of different things on offer to keep the kids busy all day – Finn and Lola really enjoyed it. We spent about 4 hours there, and they would have liked longer, but unfortunately we visited on our last day of the holiday so we needed to drive home.

Here were some of their favourite activities…

Bumper Boats

High Ropes

Soft Play (with drop slides too!)

Jurassic Jeeps

These were the bits that they enjoyed the most (and went on again and again!) but there’s loads more to do there. e.g. bouncy pillows, a wooden maze, playgrounds – plus, other activities like the miniature railway which were more suited to younger children. The lake was closed when we visited.

What facilities are there?

There’s a large restaurant and a cafe area on site, as well as toilets. Inside the main building, the big soft play area would be great if the weather turned and you needed to keep the kids busy and dry until it cleared.

There’s tons of parking, which is free. And a large farm shop with fresh milkshakes etc as Puxton Park is a working farm too! My two loved feeding the animals (£1 for a bag of feed each) and the farm area was really interesting – they run talks etc throughout the day. There were also some other random animals like meerkats and porcupines too!

(Just so you’re aware – trainers are needed for the high ropes, and socks are needed for the soft play – so come prepared!)

Is it good value for money?

An off-peak family ticket is £42.95, which we thought was really reasonable compared to other days out are often £60-80+. The kids would have happily stayed longer if they could have; they loved the animals and the activities like the Bumper Boats entertained them for ages – they went on again and again!

Current prices (accurate June 2023):

The only thing I would say is that it was really quiet when we visited (a term-time weekday in June) so Finn and Lola were able to go on things again and again without queueing. It’s also pretty spread out, and there’s a lot of different things to do / see, so nowhere felt crowded even though there was a school trip there at the time.

However, there were only a few of things like the Bumper Boats – and in the ride on go-kart section there was only one working go-kart, so I’m not sure if the scale of things here would easily accommodate large crowds. Some areas were pretty small, and others could do with improvement – so that may be something to consider.

I can’t comment on the food, as we only bought ice-creams and a milkshake, but the cakes etc looked tasty and were reasonably priced in the restaurant area. There were also plenty of places to picnic – which is what we always do!

If you’ve got kids aged around 12 and under, and you’re visiting Somerset, I would  recommend a cheap and cheerful day at Puxton Adventure Park!
