Diary of a Frugal Mum

Social Distancing: Week 16

Social Distancing: Week 16

Dear Frugal Mums,

I’ve been selling lots of bits and bobs this week – the train set, the kids old Leapfrog tablets, old bikes etc. It’s amazing how quickly it all adds up, and how helpful an extra fiver here and there can be. I did quite a lot of clearing out before lockdown, but this time at home has helped me to get even more done and make some extra money which is handy too!

It’s been a busy week of jobs. I spent a lot of time in the garden this week weeding the patio, and cutting back overgrown bushes which were coming over the fence from next door. I finally cleaned the oven too – it turns out that the black tray was actually grey! 😆  Cleaning the oven has got to be one of the worst and messiest jobs ever?!

I’m also in the midst of starting to revamp the kitchen a little, on a tight budget, DIY style. I want to paint the cabinets dark grey so I decided to remove the upper cabinets on one side of the kitchen to make the room feel lighter. Jay wasn’t convinced (he hates making extra work!) but we took them off, in hope that there would be just a few holes to fill. As you can see, we uncovered a cut out section with exposed pipework so it’s safe to say that I wasn’t too popular! 😂

I need my dad round to save the day, so I’ve filled and painted the rest of the wall to make it look less scary when he comes! 😉  It doesn’t look quite as bad, right?! I’ll be ordering the cupboard paint this week coming; I’m planning to get painting the week after, I’ll keep you posted!

Lola had the BEST day on Friday – she’s been waiting for a trip to Primark since this started and was thrilled to spend some of her pocket money. I’m feeling more confident about venturing out a little now, although we won’t be frequenting anywhere too busy on a regular basis. Finn started back at football training this week too, and he loved it! It feels good to be starting to get things back on track, even if things are still a little different for a while yet.

It was Jay’s birthday on Saturday so we had a nice day with family – although the weather did not help our BBQ! The kids wrote such lovely messages in his cards, parenting can be such a thankless job so it’s nice when they show their appreciation.

Hope you all have a good week,

Nat x
