Painting the kitchen cupboards and playdates – a busy few weeks!

Thursday 30th July 2020

Dear Frugal Mums,

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written a diary entry, but things have just been so busy! I finally painted the kitchen cupboards (after saying I was going to for the last four years!) and it was hard going. I am so pleased with the results but I think the paint made it much harder than it needed to be.

I opted for Farrow and Ball Modern Eggshell in Moles Breath as I loved the colour. I love deep greys but with black worktops I needed a grey that had a kick but wasn’t really dark. I love the finish and the overall look of the kitchen; it only cost about £150 to totally transform it.

However, some bits of the kitchen have had 6 coats (most of it has had at least 5) so it took longer than expected and I think this was down to the paint choice. But, having said that, it is also suitable for flooring and supposed to be really durable which is why I picked it, so fingers crossed it was worth the extra fuss. If you fancy giving it a go, and for before/after photos and more info, read my post on painting your own kitchen cupboards.

Aside from the kitchen, we have also had a busy few weeks in other ways. My nan treated the children and their cousins to a bouncy castle to cheer them up and to make up for missed birthdays during lockdown. They were so excited and surprised it was lovely! They’ve been seeing their cousins once a week for garden and beach fun again too, and they’re loving it!

We’ve also started to see a few people and catch up with friends which has been amazing, and a step in the right direction towards normality. The children have each had a friend over this week for the first time since March, and they were just buzzing! It was lovely to have visitors to the house and they’ll be having a friend each week over the summer holidays to make up for lost time.

We met friends at our local country park last week too, and the kids had a blast roaming the hills and paddling in the stream. It’s been nice for me start catching up with my mummy friends too, and with the weather perking up it’s easier to meet people outside and make the most of the sunshine.

It’s been great seeing more of family as well; we’ve had a few dinners at mine and Jay’s parents’ houses over the last few weeks, and it’s been lovely and really good for all of our sanity! I’ve been teaching a lot more via zoom too, so things have been pretty busy and relatively normal seeming.

We also celebrated 10 years of marriage on Friday!! A decade – I can’t believe it!  I look back at the photos and think how young we looked and it’s crazy to think how much has happened in the last ten years.

We’re hoping to get out for a date night in the next few weeks, but for now we celebrated with a games night with our munchkins and a Chinese take-away!

Hope you’re all well,

Nat x
