Day Out with the Kids: Kent Roller Disco Review

March 2023

Finn and Lola regularly go to Kent Roller Disco which operates from various venues around the county. They really enjoy it and it’s an affordable way to pass a chilly afternoon! The discos are held in large halls or venues, with a DJ and disco lights to make it fun.

When / where are the roller disco sessions?

The roller discos are held at least twice a month at each of the venues they work with. They are run in:

  • Canterbury
  • Dover
  • Ashford
  • Edenbridge
  • Hawkinge
  • Maidstone
  • Meopham
  • New Romney
  • Paddock Wood
  • Ramsgate
  • Rochester
  • Sandwich
  • Sevenoaks
  • Sheppey
  • Sittingbourne
  • Tenterden

You can view the venues and the times on their website:

Who is it suitable for?

Skates can be rented from the roller disco from children’s size 10, to adult’s size 12 – so it’s suitable for all ages once the kiddies have big enough feet and are comfortable taking part.

Under 8s must be accompanied by an adult, but adults don’t need to skate.

How much is it?

Sessions are £6.50pp – £8.50pp dependent on the venue. This price includes all safety gear (helmets and knee / elbow / wrist pads) and skate hire, but you can also wear your own if you’d prefer. All sessions are 90 minutes which is plenty of time to wear the kids out!

What else do I need to know?

There’s seating around for adults to spectate from if you’d prefer not to skate yourself. And all the venues have toilets and may have refreshments too, though you can bring your own. (We always take lots of water with us as the kids get hot and thirsty – it gets very warm in the disco even in the winter months!)

The staff are really friendly, and there are people dotted around supervising who’ll help the kids to get back on their feet if they need it.

Is it good value for money?

My two really enjoy the roller disco, and if you don’t have your own skates it’s great value for money with everything needed included. It can be quite hard to find inexpensive entertainment to keep the kids busy over the winter months, so it’s something we do quite often.

My two now have their own skates, but unfortunately there isn’t a cheaper rate if hire isn’t needed. Even so, we pay £6.50pp at our local venue, so £13 to entertain two kids isn’t bad and they love to meet up with their friends and cousins to skate together.

I would highly recommend Kent Roller Disco – it’s great fun and a much cheaper afternoon than many other activities! (And it’s great exercise too!)
