Hever Castle is definitely one to add to the list of summer holiday days out. There is so much history explore at this double-moated castle, which was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn; as well as lots of activities on offer to entertain the whole family.
The jousting shows are sure to amuse the kids – just check online before you visit to see which days and times these are shown. Whilst the children are off, they are also running a ‘Knights and Princesses School’ – which looks like very good fun!
There are two mazes to get lost in – and the water maze, with its hidden water jets, is definitely a winner on a sunny day. The playground, tunnels and giant sandpit are also a great way to while away a few hours – you might even get to sit down whilst the kids are busy! Archery and shield painting are available too, but there is a small additional charge for these activities.
The military museum is an interesting place to visit with its reconstruction of a World War I trench, with sound effects, and the interior of a World War II Cromwell tank turret. The award-winning gardens are a lovely place to take a stroll, and they are in full bloom this time of year. There is so much to do, just be sure to book online before you go to save a few quid! There is a gift shop, as well as a restaurant and a tea room on site but, if you want to keep costs down, pack a picnic and visit the picnic areas instead.
